JEREZ AIRPORT (XRY) INFORMATION

Located some 8 km northeast of the city of Jerez de la Frontera in Spain's beautiful Cadiz province, Jerez Airport handled 1,133,621 passengers in 2018. A single terminal serves both departures and arrivals. The city of Cadiz is located about 45 km from the airport and linked to it by motorways, buses and trains. Run by airport authority AENA, Jerez Airport has seen considerable increase in aircraft movement and passenger numbers since 1993, but is actually a historic airport that opened for international passenger traffic in August 1968.

Before that Aeropuerto de Jerez was the site of the first aviation fairs held in the province of Cadiz, and later the site of an aerodrome and school for pilots in the late 1930's. Today Jerez Airport offers passengers flight routes to many countries, including Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and Britain.

Airlines using Jerez Airport include Brussels Airlines, Easyjet, Edelweiss Air, Eurowings, Helvetic Airways, Iberia, Ryanair, Tuifly Brussels and Tuifly Deutschland. Budget airline Vueling also flies out of Jerez Airport to destinations like Barcelona, Bilbao and Palma de Mallorca.

The general terminal lobby contains a multi-shop that sells food, newspapers and magazines and gifts. For refreshments prior to or after flights there are a cafeteria in the arrivals area and a bar-restaurant on the first floor.

The car parking area is within a couple of minutes' walk of the terminal and this is where car rental companies have their designated areas for pick-ups.

Parking at Jerez Airport

Parking can be booked online and in advance, which represents considerable savings. There are 397 parking spaces and the car park is ideal for short-term parking of 4 days or so. Stopping off to simply pick-up or dropping off passengers is free, if the vehicle only stops for a few minutes.

Booking in advance is essential during the MotorGP racing times in spring, usually at the beginning of May. Jerez motor racing circle is not far away from the airport, about 12 minutes via the A-382 or 19 minutes' drive via the A-4 motorway.

Transportation to and from Jerez Airport

A taxi rank is right outside the terminal. The official carrier is Tele Taxi Jerez. Taxis are available 24/7. The minimum fare is 4.00 euros. Jerez Airport lies between the A-4 and A-5 motorways, so access to other parts of Cadiz province is easily achieved by road. Buses from and to Jerez Airport

Regular bus services leave Jerez Airport for Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa Maria and Cadiz city throughout the day and evening. It takes a. 30 minutes by inter-city bus to reach Jerez de la Frontera, and about 1 hour and 15 minutes for a bus to reach the city of Cadiz. Bus services from Jerez Airport also connect passengers with villages like Chipiona and Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and the area of Costa Ballena in Rota.

A single bus ticket to Gualdacin or Jerez de la Frontera costs just 1.40 euros per person, or 0.89 euros with a travel card. A single ticket to Cadiz cost 3.85 euros per person, or 2.86 euros with a travel card.

The first MD bus leaves Jerez Airport at 07.39 hours, arriving in Jerez city at 07.56 hours, and in Cadiz at 08.26 hours. The final MD bus leaves the airport at 22.48 hours, arriving in Jerez city at 23.05 hours, and in Cadiz at 23.35 hours.

First MD bus services leave Cadiz at 05.40 hours, arriving at the airport at 06.24 hours.

Trains to and from Jerez Airport

The train station serving Jerez Airport lies to the west of the terminal, opposite the parking area. Jerez Airport's train station offers connections to regional and local trains, which operate on a regular basis, starting at 07.26 hours from the airport, arriving at the city of Jerez at 07.45 hours, and in Cadiz at 08.20 hours.

The first C-1 train leaves Cadiz at 06.15 hours to arrive at the airport at 07.09 hours. The final service leaves Cadiz at 18.11 hours, to arrive at the airport at 19.05 hours.

The RENFE commuter train C-1 covers the Cadiz, San Severiano, Segunda Aguada, Estadio Cortaduro, Bahia Sur, San Fernando, Puerto Real, Las Aletas, Valdelagrana, El Puerto de Santa Maria, Jerez de la Frontera and Estacion FC Aeropuerto stations.

At the train station overlooking Plaza de la Estacion there is a Thrifty car hire office, open from 8.30 to 14.00 hours, and from 17.00 to 20.00 hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Thursdays this car hire office is open from 8.30 to 14.00 hours and from 17.00 to 23.30 hours. Saturdays the Thrifty office is only open from 9.00 to 14.00 hours.

Tourism in Cadiz Province

The ancient port of Cadiz is home to the Spanish Navy, but is also a historic witness to global exploration and Spain's part in mapping the world. Spanish maritime heritage goes back many centuries and nowhere is that more evident than in Cadiz: there are more than 100 watchtowers. One of them, the Torre Tavira, was used for spotting ships, not just pirate ones, but also merchant ships laden with goods from the New World, a cargo so valuable that it made the province one of the richest in southern Spain.
